Viagra condoms waiting for approval

British pharmaceutical company, Futura Medical, developed an innovative condom that not only keeps you safe from STD’s and unwanted pregnancy, but also gives some boost to your erection. Apparently, these condoms contain a special gel which helps men to keep stronger erection. They conducted a clinical study [link] comparing this new condom with a regular condom and both men and women reported advancement of man’s erection when using so-called “Viagra” condoms!

The gel contained in the “Viagra condom” is based on a generic compound used for the treatment of angina. The gel is absorbed by the skin, it boosts blood flow and therefore improves erection.

Bad news? They are still not available on the market. European regulators are still considering whether to approve them.

Btw, they named these condoms CSD500. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner model to me.
Anyhow, Futura Medical is a partner to Benckiser Group (they are the makers and distributors of Durex) so if they do approve them (cross your fingers), they will probably be distributed under the Durex brand.

If they work well as they say, I think that the use of condoms in Europe could rise noticeably. The market research they’ve conducted showed very positive response:

  • 88% of existing condom users would be interested in buying them
  • 49% of non-condom users would be interested in purchasing CSD500

However, they can’t replace real Viagra. Although they do enhance erections they are not recommended for erectile dysfunction treatment.

By the first half of 2011 European regulators should make their decision. It’s still unknown if the company will also seek US approval.
