Every now and then I get a new comment on one of my posts and in most cases a visitor is asking for a condom recommendation, giving his penis circumference and length.
It’s becoming tedious to reply everyone individually, so I’ decided to put here a table which shows suggested condom width in relation to penis circumference.
How this works
- 1. first, of course, you have to know your size. Read here about how to measure it
- 2. Once you have your circumference check where it stands on the table below.
- 3. To the right you’ll see suggested condom width for your size, both in inches and milimeters. Clicking on these numbers will lead you to the appropriate section in the condom size chart.
You can use the figures below as a guidance, but be sure to do your own research as well. First hand experience will always be the best judge. Also, I’m not responsible for any misuse :)

How did I get these numbers
Some of you might be interested to know how I got these numbers. Well they came through a combination of personal experiments and personal preference, feedback from readers and researching few studies that one can find on the topic of condom size.
There aren’t many studies that dealt with this topic. An old study published in the International Journal of STD & AIDS tried to find how penis size influence condom slippage and breakage. In their results they concluded that “each additional centimetre of penile circumference increases the risk of condom breakage by 50 to 100%”.
That would mean that a man with a penis circumference of 14 cm is about twice as likely
to experience condom breakage as a man with a girth of 13 cm.
Researchers like John Gerofi dealt with this topic in more details. He examined the available studies and tried to measure the pressure of condom on penis and how much it changes with different sizes.
In his publication called Condom size he writes how condom circumference should be smaller than penis circumference so there is enough radial force which ensures the condom stays in place.
The analysis suggests that the ideal ratio between condom circumference and penis circumference should be from 80 to 90%. More than that increases the risk of slippage, and if the ratio is less than 80% there is a greater risk of condom breakage.
If we take an average penis girth of 4.9 inches and compare it to average condom circumference (4.1 inches) we see that they’re within the suggested ratio.
I’ve applied this factor to all (well, almost all) possible sizes and got the above table.

you can use a slightly larger condom with a width between 54-56mm. for example Trojan Magnum

the thickest part of the penis should be used as a reference. so in your case it’s the shaft (5.75″)

I had a lot of trouble staying hard with condoms. The average run of the mill condom felt way to tight and would flatten the lip or ridge at the bottom of my head. I’m not huge 6 1/2″ and 5- 51/2″ in girth. So I bought Trojan Magnums and hooray LOL I found a condom I can get off wearing! Magnums I do think are intended for a larger size, but they fit me snug enough to stay on. Most importantly they DO NOT flatten the ridge at the bottom of my head and that has made all the difference. My advice is to find that condom for you. As far as designs, a condom with ridges, bumps or tiny rubber fingers on the inside of the head would be great for the loss of sensation. The head of a penis is very sensitive, the difference between direct contact and through a condom can be significant, but you got be safe.

Hi, I am 16 years old and I cant find the right condom. Although I know length isnt really that important, my length is around 6 inches and my girth is around 142mm-146mm (keeps changing everytime i measure probably due to sexual activity, arousal level, etc etc.) Can you please recommend something I’d really appreciate it. Hey, I’m about 6″ in length and almost 6″ in circumference. I’m not sure what condom to get. I’ve tried a durex brand before, can’t remember the name, it’s was ok with length but almost impossible to get on because of my girth and felt a little uncomfortable. I’m in Canada if that helps.
hey Mike, you have to pick the biggest that you can find (58 or 60 mm condom width, as suggested in the chart above). durex xl has 57mm width, might be a bit too snug, but it’s also worth trying. if you are able to order from abroad then I’d suggest a custom fit

What size condom should I wear? I was looking at Durex Comfort XL because of my length and base girth, but most condoms get wider at the head, and my penis is the opposite! Could a Comfort XL work for me? Suggestions?
Durex Comfort XL might be a bit too snug at the base. you’re from Ireland? if so, you won’t have any problems finding condoms with bigger width (60 mm+). instead of the flared shape, try a straight shaped condom. here are some suggestions

I’m sorry but this just doesn’t add up to me. You are suggesting a 6.28 inch circumference condom to a kid with a 5 inch circumference penis. Explain to me your logic…. None of those numbers in the table above make any sense.
Jake, you got it all wrong. A kid with a 5 inch circumference should use a regular condom – width between 2.09 and 2.13 inches.
first column is penis circumference, second column is suggested condom width.
also, keep in mind that circumference is not the same thing as width…

Even though I’m clear that width and circumference are different, I believe Jake is correct and the chart is off. For example, your chart states that a guy with a 5.8″-6.1″ circumference should use a condom width of 2.37″-2.53″. Circumference equals diameter times pie (3.14). If the “width” of a condom is essentially its diameter, then the chart’s recommended condom width of 2.37″-2.53″ would produce a condom circumference (unstretched) of 7.45″-7.95″. This is a recommended condom circumference that would exceed the 5.8″-6.1″ penis circumference by almost 2 inches. Please explain this. Am I missing something in my math? Thank you for your work on this.
condom width is not the same as diameter, that’s why your formula doesn’t apply here.
the thing is that the “condom width” is measured when a condom is lying flat (and not inflated).
basically 2 pieces of half oval latex (or whatever material) are lying on top of each other.
so you get the approximate circumference by multiplying that width by 2, and not 3.14…
now, having that in mind lets see your example… a condom with a 2.37″ width has the circumference of 4.74″
As such it will hold tight on a penis 5.8″ penis (girth), but not too tight that there’s a risk of breakage
hope this makes a bit more sense? Let me know if I should try harder to explain the difference between width vs circumference, it seems that this is the most confusing part…

Hello, I’m 14 and me and my girlfriend have been dating a loooong time so I think it’s time to carry a condom just in case… I’m still having difficulty finding the right size even after reading numerous sites. My circumference is about 5in and my length is 5.2in.

well, condom width has a bigger impact on the safety plus comfort/pleasure. It would be better if the length fits as well, of course, but the correct width should be the number one priority

What if the circumference is 7 inches…do they do larger ones for that? I tend to get an either dark purple, or blood-drained … erm, member due to poor circulation du to the ones I get. Not comfortable, or attractive.
69 mm is the biggest as far as I know, but it should be enough…you can get them in Europe

A few things, actually: first of all, condoms do get built around width as well as size, but second of all, they’re meant to be SOMEWHAT tight, at least to prevent slipping, surely? So how tight is adequately tight, and how much is too loose to be safe? I had no idea, he less so. I wasn’t sure how this Google search would work out.
