Can sexual activity relieve headaches?

Got a headache? Well, if you have a regular sexual partner, then you may be in luck. A recent study seems to indicate that sexual activity can help to relieve the pain of a headache. In fact, the study even goes as far as suggesting that regular sex can lead to a decrease of migraines in regular sufferers. This sounds nifty, doesn’t it? Let’s take an in-depth look at this, shall we?

At this moment, we are unsure as to what actually causes the decrease in pain associated with headaches during and after sex. It is, however, believed that it is all down to endorphins. Endorphins, as you may know, are a chemical which your body releases as a sort of natural painkiller. Whenever you experience something “fun” or you work out, your body will release endorphins. This is why sexual activity can help.

Obviously, it is a pretty strenuous activity (if you choose the right positions at least), and the majority of people will tend to be fairly good at sex and thus get to experience the thrill upon finishing too!

About 1,000 people were questioned for this study. Four out of every ten of them responded. 800 of the patients were suffering from regular migraines whilst the others were suffering from cluster headaches.

Around one third of people suffering from cluster headaches reported that the pain subsided during and after sexual activity. It is however worth noting that 50% of people that responded said that the pain got worse for them. This could potentially mean that cluster headaches are not impacted in the slightest when it comes to endorphins.

On the other hand, about 60% of those who responded and were suffering from migraines said that they had total pain relief after sex, and some even said that the pain was completely cleared up after sex. Many people said that there was complete pain relief, although a few reported just minor relief.

This is fair enough though; after all, migraines tend to be rather severe in nature (the study did not look into the severity of the migraines), and thus it is unlikely that the pain could have been completely eradicated using nothing more than the body’s natural defense mechanism.

For minor headaches, although there is no real evidence out there at the moment, it is likely that the pain will be relieved fairly easily.

Remember; sexual activity is not just going to help with headaches. It is also going to help just about every sort of pain out there. I used to suffer from regular toothaches. Whenever that happened, sex helped! You can do the same. In fact, you do not even need a partner to make this happen (although that is a great deal more fun, obviously). You can also masturbate and enjoy the benefits of relief from the pain that you are suffering.
